Understanding Bitcoin ETF flows

What do Bitcoin ETF inflows and outflows mean?

An inflow means authorized participants created new fund shares and the fund added bitcoin; an outflow means shares were redeemed and holdings fell. Net flow is creations minus redemptions in US dollars for one trading day.

How do ETF flows differ from trading volume?

Trading volume is the value of ETF shares changing hands on the exchange. Most trades move shares between investors and do not change fund size; only creations and redemptions are flows.

How do creations and redemptions work?

Authorized participants exchange cash or in-kind assets for fund shares with the issuer in the primary market. The issuer then buys or sells bitcoin so holdings match the shares outstanding.

Do inflows guarantee a higher BTC price?

No. Flows show demand on a given trading day, but the bitcoin price also reflects spot and derivatives markets, macro conditions and other participants. Nothing here is investment advice.

Why are figures revised?

Some issuers report after the close or the next day, and sources may update figures after first publication. Funds that have not reported are shown as missing, never as zero.

Which markets are included?

Only US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs. Futures ETFs and products listed in Hong Kong or elsewhere are excluded.
